Love Our Landmarks: save west park

On March 8, 2025, hundreds rallied to save West Park Presbyterian Church—a 135-year-old building landmarked in 2010—from demolition and ensure it remains a vital arts and cultural hub for Upper Manhattan and NYC. Despite the building’s official landmark status and a Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC)-approved, fully funded restoration plan, church administrators are refusing to authorize the work while pursuing a sale to a developer, which could result in the demolition of an iconic historic space and displacement of a thriving, self-sustaining arts and community hub.

 

With Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, Laurence Fishburne, Julianna Margulies, Fisher Stevens, Mark Levine, Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Gale Brewer, and more standing with us, the message was clear: this landmark must be saved.
