ABOUT NICHOLAS HOUFEK’S COLORSYNTH
The ColorSynth is a software interface built in Max/Msp that converts the musical pitch from input into a specifically mapped color of light. As the musical pitch changes, so do the color of light in real-time. The quantity and placement of the lights in space are flexible.
For this performance at The Center at West Park, the original pipe organ and ceiling of the sanctuary will be activated by colored light reacting directly to the musical performance. The audience will be immersed in color changing in real-time to the music.
The ColorSynth is a continuation of a long tradition of Light Organs that spans centuries and takes many forms.
Funding for this production is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
