July 4th weekend, 1992. In a mid-summer heatwave, a police shooting on the streets of Washington Heights leaves an unarmed man dead and the neighborhood ablaze. Amid the unrest, a local priest barricades himself inside his soon to be shuttered church, welcoming a small group of parishioners taking shelter from the chaos. Tasked with staying alive together, they wait for the mayhem just beyond their door to pass. In the meantime, these unlikely confederates must face a host of tensions, suspicions, and secrets, to survive the reckoning at hand.

Primitive Grace
Founded and led by the vision of Artistic Directors Paul Calderon and David Zayas, Primitive Grace is a New York-based not-for-profit theatre company, devoted toward creating and staging new plays that challenge the theatrical paradigm. This diverse ensemble's method strives to transform their audience's worldview and compels them to experience new realities through the dramatic medium, creating an immediate dialogue between performer, audience, and subject. Their work deals with the essence of confrontation, social transgression, and the subversion of our culteral criterion. Past productions include Calderon's plays Fringe of Humanity, Divine Horsemen, and Master of the Crossroads.
