STORM THEATRE presents
the shoemaker’s holiday
an Elizabethan romantic comedy!
play by Thomas Dekker
Nobleman Rowland Lacy deserts his commission in Henry V's army and disguises himself as a Dutch shoemaker in order to woo his beloved, Rose. But Rose is forbidden by Lacy's uncle due to her low commoner status. While in disguise he meets the fantastical shoemaker, Simon Eyre, and his band of "Couragous Cordwainers, The mad Knaves of Bedlam, Fleet Street, Tower Street and Whitechapel." What follows is a deeply romantic, lovingly crafted city comedy that charts the rise of the bustling, vibrant medieval middle class with loads of laughs and deep pathos.
